There is a fine line between being vain and being self-conscious. I'm the latter. Throughout my teens I suffered with my skin, and while if I could I'd tell my younger self not to put so much make-up on to cover my blemishes, we all know when you're feeling so anxious about your skin, you'll do whatever you can to try and make yourself feel more confident, and it's only natural.

For me, when my skin is at it's worst, the only make-up I want to use is one that hides all my imperfections. Sadly, most high-coverage foundations come with a layer of cake (and not the delicious kind) - which is something we could all do without. Vichy have nailed their high-coverage (with added confidence) foundation down to a tee with their DermaBlend collection.

This was designed for people with oily or acne-prone skin. It's non-comedogenic which helps protect your skin from break outs. It was also created for people with sensitive skin, so it's a double winner for me. Having suffered from acne most of my teens (and even as an adult), I've been longing for a foundation that has good-but natural coverage, doesn't cause my skin to break out, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Triple tick for Vichy's DermaBlend.

You only need a small amount of this powerful little foundation to cover your whole face. At first, it may seem quick thick and heavy, but I apply with a damp beauty blender and it blends beautifully, without me feeling like I've put multiple layers on. The coverage is absolutely incredible, it hides blemishes and redness, as well as hiding any scars and dark circles.

In terms of wear, this is a foundation that I will wear when my skin is feeling a little under the weather, on a night out or when I need my make-up to last longer than usual. The high coverage gives me the confidence boost that I need, while leaving my skin with a natural dewy glow - so I don't look like a plastic doll. It also lasts all day on my skin, so there's no need for touch ups! Another win for DermaBlend.

Considering this is an acne-control foundation, it's quite versatile. You can easily build up the product if you want a heavier look or want a longer wearing foundation (like a night out), or you can mix this with your favourite serum or moisturiser to make it an even lighter foundation, that still has great coverage.

I have a pale-porcelain skin tone, so I chose the shade Opal which is almost identical to the shade on the packaging. To compare, I'm BR40 in YSL and NC15/20 in MAC. They have so many shades available, so I'm sure you'll be able to pick up the shade to suit you. And guess what, you can pick this up for only £17.99! Just click the link below.

It's come that time that I provide you my first official update within my Acne Diaries series since starting my course of treatment. If you read my previous posts you will know that I was prescribed Lymecycline which is an oral antibiotic taken in a tablet form and Benzoyl Peroxide which is a gel based lotion that you apply on your skin.

Before Treatment

Before I started my treatment my skin was very delicate and without make-up the appearance was very red and inflamed even though there wasn't necessarily any blemishes. My skin had a lot of scar tissue but occasionally when a few blemishes appeared they were very red and had a solid texture as they were more of an under skin blemish. My skin was often sore and the tissue around my jawline was thick and felt clogged.

After 10 Days

You  can see that my skin became very red and sore, the surface of my skin felt sensitive and burnt and it became very uncomfortable to even wash my face. The doctors advised this was from the Benzoyl Peroxide as it effectively is bleach and it had caused irritation to my skin, despite my skin being red and being really dry and tight, the tissue around my jawline did feel less clogged but was still very sensitive.

After 14 Days

After my visit at the doctors they advised to stop the Benzoyl Peroxide for 5 days and apply a Diprobase Cream which is a bland emollient to repair and add moisture back to my skin. I have stopped using the Benzoyl Peroxide for 5 days now so will be re-starting tomorrow however the doctors have advised to only use this one day on and one day off and in between apply the Diprobase Cream on the off day to start repairing my skin to prevent it becoming as irritated.

Now my skin has repaired itself from the irritation you can see the difference in my skin's appearance, it is a long way from perfect or where I want it to be but you can see my skin is not as red or inflamed and the tissue around my jawline does not feel as congested and feels like it may finally be on the road to repair.

I am starting the Benzoyl Peroxide treatment again tomorrow and I am also returning to the doctors again in around two weeks so I will keep you updated with my progress and hopefully this continues to improve. I do have a long way to go before my skin is healed and the doctors have already advised this could be around 12 - 18 month journey but hopefully this works.

Anyone who suffers from Acne will understand that it is a personal subject so I really hope these posts are helpful, if there is anything you wish to ask or want to know please feel free to comment and I will response or if you prefer to ask a question more privately you can email me at beau-elle@outlook.com.

For those who have seen my other posts in the Acne Diary series you will know I have a skin struggle, I have been trying different things for years and it has been getting on top of me. As I am planning a wedding, I have decided enough is enough as I am done trying different remedies that don't work so I plucked up the courage and went to the doctors to ask for a more permanent solution.

There are many types of Acne so don't ever try medication or gel/liquids without seeing your doctor as you don't want to get one that is going to make things worse. My doctor have advised that I have a combination of Cystic Acne and inflamed acne.

Cystic Acne is large bumps that are under the skin, they are filled with a pus like fluid underneath the skin but you won't be able to squeeze it out and they can be quite painful. These Cysts can take a while to go away and can cause scarring as they are deep in the skin. I tend to get these along my jawline near my glands, they tend to come back as the bacteria is still in the tissue in under your skin. The worst thing you can do is squeeze these, don't ever think about it - as hard as it can be as you can spread the bacteria which can cause more Cysts.

Inflamed Acne is when your pores clog, so this may have started as a whitehead or black head and it can get infected or irritated and becomes inflamed. The appearance is red and the skin around the acne is swollen and can also be painful. This type of acne is not filled with pus usually but can should this get infected. Again don't squeeze these as more than likely it will scar or the bacteria will spread and will cause a furthr breakout.

I was prescribed two treatments to try, one is an tablet antibiotic and another is a gel fluid to try for the next 4 weeks, the doctors have only given me a month prescription for now as they want to see how I get on with them. Depending on the results if things are starting to improve then they may make the decision to keep me on antibiotics for between 12 and 18 months or they may be referring me to a dermatologist to complete further tests and possibly a more intense treatment.

Lymecycline capsules is used to treat and reduce acne by reducing the growth of bacteria in and under the skin. You have to take one capsule every day around the same time, they recommend you taking it in the mornings but it is personal preference. This medicine usually takes around 8 weeks to start having a noticeable results.

Epiduo is a cream-gel formula which is a branded name for Benzoyl Peroxide. Benzoyl Peroxide is available as a cream or a gel and is used either once or twice a day depending on doctors recommendations. It works best when applied around 20 minutes after cleansing or washing your face and it should be used sparingly as it too much of this product can irritate your skin.

As Benzoyl Peroxide can have a bleaching effect you need to be careful on bed linen, hair and clothes. It also makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight so you may need to avoid natural sun and UV lighting and wear a higher protection sun cream when in contact with the sun. This treatment usually takes around 6 weeks to have noticeable results.

Full information on Acne and Acne treatment can be found at NHS which is the website the doctors have recommended me reading so I understand my condition in more depth to ensure I can control and treat it the best I can.

I hold my hands up, I did get a little emotional when speaking to the doctors. Acne can be quite a personal and emotional subject, for me personally it has effected me in so many different ways and it has effected my confidence and personal life - Even when I am on holiday I am unable to wear a bikini without wearing a kimono or shawl to cover the Acne on my back or even at social or public events I am unable to wear a top that reveals any part of my back. I am not saying this for sympathy but for anyone else who suffers from Acne, I know how you feel as I have felt embarrassed, I have had a lack of confidence and I have felt fed up as I had tried practically everything but I am hoping this new skin journey is what I need to improve my skin and to get my confidence back and I really hope these posts could help you too.

I would love to know if you find these posts are helpful and if you would like me to cover anything.

So this post is all about preventing bacne (back-acne) and before I start I want to say that I am no expert, and I cannot guarantee this will cure your bacne but this has certainly helped me and my skin is a lot clearer and I now feel a little more confident wearing a strappy top in the summer or even an open back dress (ish).

All of the products featured are available online or on the highstreet and are all reasonable priced. If you seen my last post I mentioned a few do's and dont's and one of the most important do's is finding the right products that work that also are not stuffed with perfumes, alcohol and fragrances and the next few products you will see should suit all skin types that suffer from acne and I am hoping (fingers crossed) these help you like they have helped me.

Spa Find Perfect Purity - Dermabalance Face & Body Wash Link £11.60

This product is said to have control your acne and reduces scars, eliminates impurities and to reduce the oil production in your skin which prevents spots. I use a couple of pumps of this on a body brush and apply is small circular motions, it is important to not be vigorous with the brush as this can actually damage your skin and could cause more spots. On the occasions my skin is worse I use this twice over and gently rinse with water.

Cactus Body Brush, Bodycare £3.99

This brush may look a little scary but it really is not rough at all. When wet the brush is quite delicate on the skin and works wonders for cleansing your skin with product whilst gently removing any dead skin cells. I wouldn't recommend using this to treat facial acne as the skin is more delicate but if you suffer from acne on any other area of your body you definitely need to pick up a body brush, you don't need an expensive one at all as this was pretty reasonable and has lasted me a while and still has loads of use left.

Sudocrem, Any Pharmaceutical Store £2.99

Finally when I am out of the bath/shower I apply a thin layer of sudocrem on any blemishes and leave it to work it's magic. For those who have never used Sudocrem before it is an antiseptic and antibacterial product that helps clear/heal your skin and is one of the best products to use if you have acne - this is literally a miracle product as you can use it for just about anything.

I have been using this routine for a good few months now and I really think they all work, I really wish I found this routine when I was younger as my skin is now so much better and my back is a lot clearer than it's been in a very long time - I admit it's not perfect and there are still a lot of scars from when I was younger which I can't get rid of but my confidence has had a massive boost and my skin is slowly improving to how I want it.

I really hope you found the second post in my Acne Diaries series useful, if you would like to see anything covered or have anything you would like me answer please feel free to leave a comment :)

I could pretend I am this perfect girl that doesn't have any problems with her skin/body but I am not going to because I am a normal girl with imperfections and rather than being embarrassed/disgusted with my body I thought I would share these tips to help others too.

Acne is has been a big part of my life and it's something I had to put up with growing up, for anyone who has or had acne you will know that it never really goes away and most of us are left with horrible scars which have ruined our confidence completely. Well I am one of those girls! I have also been one of those girls that suffer from bacne (acne on your back) and occasionally it's worse but I have finally found a routine-ish to help keep it under control (well kinda - sadly I still have the scars).

I really wanted to tell anyone who suffers from acne it really is nothing to be ashamed of, and according to NHS statistics it is more common than you think with around 80% of people aged between 11-30 experience acne at least once - surely that has got to make you feel a little bit better?

I have suffered from acne intermittently since I was about 13, I have never really been able to stop it and I have found over the years that some products I just cannot use because it make's it worse. More than likely I have tried everything out there which is why I thought I would start a series on my blog called the Acne Diaries where I will cover tips and products which help, products that don't and much more.

Now on to the Do's and the Dont's.

Do's:

♥ Cleanse your face twice a day using hot or warm water - Once in the morning and once in the night. In the morning I would recommend using Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish as it's a gentle cleanse and in the evening use the same product but do a second cleanse with Eucerin DermaPurifying Cleanser. After your cleanse always use a toner to balance the pH of your skin.

♥ Use a fresh flannel or cloth every time you wash your face - think of all the bacteria you are cleaning out in you cleanse, you don't want to put it back in your skin later in the day.

♥ Drink lots of water - I am shocked I am saying this as I hardly ever used to drink water but now I swear by it and I try to drink as much as I can a day. It really is good for clearing any toxins out of your skin and is great for helping to clear up your skin (I don't know how it just is!)

♥ Change your bedding at least once a week - again think of the bacteria, and whilst your skin is on the road to recovery you wouldn't want to breakout again.

♥ Use the right moisturiser for your skin type - matching a good moisturiser will help keep the oils and the pH of your skin balanced. For example you wouldn't use a moisturiser for dry skin if you are combination/oily as it will add too much moisture.

♥ Check your products - I found that using a perfumed or heavy fragranced shampoo's actually made my acne worse, for example ever since I changed to the Naked Shampoo range my head is not irritated and my bacne has cleared up. Also worth while checking your body lotions, washing up detergents and if you have long hair then check your hair products.

♥ Exercise - I am the worst at this as I am so lazy (I really need to get my act together) but exercise is great for getting the blood flowing which will help your skin look healthy. Just make sure you shower when you get home to remove any sweat and bacteria off your skin.

♥ Eat Healthy - If you eat healthy your body is full of good toxins, if you think about all the rubbish that goes into fast or fatty foods it really is not good for you and those toxins will eventually come out and it's usually in your skin.

♥ Clean your phone - I noticed this through work as my work phone was covered in make-up and it made me think what else is lurking on my phone, I often use an antibacterial wipe just to give my phone a quick clean and get rid of any bacteria.

♥ Be patient - getting rid of acne will not happen over night. But you have to be strict with yourself and stick in a routine and it will work I promise! I have been there and I have been embarrassed and disgusted with myself; especially with my bacne and it made me really self concious and completely ruined my confidence but it is slowly getting there. So just be patient and give yourself a break! :)

Dont's

♥ Avoid products with lots of alcohol or have a high oil concentration as this will just feed the acne and make it worse.

♥ Prevent from using make-up or wearing lots of make-up - this is something I very rarely do and I understand that when you have acne the one thing you are not going to do is leave it uncovered. But where possible don't wear make-up, I always remove my make-up as soon as I am home and when I am not going anywhere I leave it off to let my skin breathe. Or you could even try switching to a make-up that is made to help spot-prone skin or for preventing the clogging of pores.

♥ Don't touch - I am the worst culprit for this, you unconsciously touch! My acne is around my jawline and the worst thing I do is sit with my hands in my face at work, if you have sweat or oils on your skin and touch your face it can cause further irritation or cause your pores to block even more.

♥ Don't pick - The one thing you want to do is to remove any blemish but with acne it is actually worse as it means the bacteria can spread and can get into more pores, simply using the right products to open up your pores then clean your skin and using a toner to close your pores again will do the trick

♥ Get stressed - Stress and worry causes acne to break out easier and to spread quicker. I don't actually know how or why this happens but it does and I notice it in my skin if I have been stressed.

So not that many then ey! Like I said before I am not anywhere near an expert but I am human, I have and am still suffering with acne and I have probably tried every tip you can think of and these are the few that I find have really helped me so I thought I would share. It goes to show that mum's are always right as it was my mum that has told me most of these :)

I really hope you found the first part of the Acne Diaries helpful, I will be doing a few more posts in the series shortly but I would love to know if there was anything in particular you would like me to cover or anything you would like to see? If so please leave a comment as I love to hear them and it will also help me ensure that my future posts are useful :)

When EScentual got in contact with me and told me about the Eucerin DermoPURIFYER Cleanser* I was very excited to try this as my skin has broken out in a few blemishes recently and could definitely do with some TLC.

EScentual say Eucerin DermoPURIFYER Cleanser is a balanced formula which gently refreshes your oil-prone skin. The cleanser is soap-free and fragrance free and eliminates excess sebum (causes blemishes) and removes dirt and make-up in a single step. The cleanser is created to closely meet the needs of those with oily skin, with blemishes and imperfections with anti-bacterial properties that ensure that the skin is fresh and clear. It's tolerability is proven on patients with blemishes and acne prone skin.

The cleanser is a clear gel type fluid and you apply with warm water in small circular motions to create a lather, I use this as a second cleanse with my cleanse and polish to give me skin a little extra TLC when it's broken out. The cleanser is gentle and works beautifully to instantly refresh and clean your skin.

I have been using this for a little over a week now and I can honestly say I have seen a huge difference in my skin. I often break out in blemishes across my jawline which is where I have acne scars from when I was younger however since using this cleanser, my skin has cleared up dramatically. I know there is still a lot of work needed to make my skin even that one step closer to how I want it to be but it's getting there, this cleanser has helped slowly clear up my current blemishes and I have noticed fewer and fewer problems with my skin recently.

I have a mixture of cleansers that I use depending on what my skin needs but for when my skin is feeling a little spotty this will definitely be my go to cleanser. For anyone who is spot prone or even if you just have oily skin I would highly recommend this as it is now one of my favourites. You can pick up Eucerin DermoPURIFYER for around £9 for a 200ml on EScentual, Boots and other pharmaceutical drugstores.

Have you tried any of the Eucerin range? Is there any products you would recommend for acne-prone skin?
