Wedding: Planning a Wedding

by - Thursday, July 09, 2015

Weddings are usually the most expensive and stressful time that you will have. But they don’t have to be! I am currently planning my wedding abroad, yes I know sounds bonkers doesn’t it! Especially as all my plans will be finalised when I next go to Spain in August – which is quite scary as I get married in October. But I thought for those of you who are planning your wedding (a huge Congratulations by the way!) might want a few tips to help along the way, so I thought I'd share the few things that have helped me along the way.

PINTEREST

The first thing I did since getting engaged (okay, way before I got engaged) I started planning the little details on Pinterest. Pinterest is amazing for producing mood boards for the things you like; I had a huge range of different mood boards, one for the dress, shoes, make-up, jewellery, bridesmaids, flowers, themes – a different board for each potential theme, decorations, gifts, vows, rings – you name it I did it. And the best thing about Pinterest is that its free, its free to join and its free to pin. You can even make all of your boards private so no-one sees them to keep your wedding ultra-secret!
RESEARCH

Do your research, where do you want to get married? UK or abroad? What season? There is so much to think about when planning your perfect day, so you really do need to research to make sure it is perfect. Have a nosy at where has the best price, best value for money, the best quality etc. If you are getting married abroad like me, it’s a little more difficult to find local deals but you can always have a look and see what companies can offer what. Make sure you get a few of quotes, for example a florist, even if you have found the perfect flowers, can someone else do the same for cheaper? Can someone actually do them better? Can your venue do everything for you? Can you save a lot of time and money by keeping everything in house? These are a few things to think about but make sure you do what is right for you and as long as you are happy then go for it!
BUDGET

Make sure you have your budget in mind before you start planning – and stick to it! If you are a little nerdy like me I have created a spreadsheet with everything included – if you use excel there is a basic wedding budget template which you may find useful. Or you could look at getting a planner to take with you everywhere and jot down your notes. Either way, make sure you record everything financially to avoid any unwanted surprises and make sure you stick to your budget as us women can tend to go off the radar and just buy things we like (I know, trust me! My other half tells me off sometimes haha)
SCHEDULE

Have a rough schedule in mind! What time do you want to get married? What time do you want to eat? Have an idea and jot down a rough timeline (remember to add on extra time in case you run over) and the most important thing, schedule some time for you and your new husband/wife. The day will have so much going on, it will just fly by. So remember to slot in even 10 minutes just for you both to take a step back and enjoy your day.
ENJOY

Planning a wedding will possibly be the most stressful time, but try not to make it. That’s what your mum, best friends and bridal party are there for, to help take any stresses away from you. Make sure you enjoy the planning process, remember this is your wedding so try not to please other people too much and just do what you and your fiancé want to do. If your husband wants to come in on a Segway, let him (have you guessed what my fiancé is coming in on yet… hmm!) Too many couples try and plan their big day around their guests; what do they like the most, what would they want to do, but remember its YOUR day so whatever you plan, your guests should enjoy it as they are there to celebrate your wedding – just remember to make sure the decision is both of yours, after all it is both of your special day.
So, these are just a few things that I have found are really important and handy whilst planning my wedding. Do let me know if this post was helpful, and if you have any tips which you found when planning your wedding then please leave a comment below :-)
